1,500 Care Packages for Houston Seniors

On Saturday, September 12, more than 70 volunteers gathered at the Katy Elks Lodge for our biggest event yet: the Hearts for Elders Care Package Event.

From 2 to 5 PM, the lodge was full of energy. Students, families, and volunteers from organizations all around Katy lined up at long tables, working assembly-line style to fill bag after bag. Volunteers wore matching Hearts for Elders shirts, music played, and every finished box of packages got a cheer. To keep everyone fueled, volunteers were treated to pizza and water.

By the end of the afternoon, volunteers had packed 1,500 care packages. Those packages are being delivered to seniors living in care facilities across the Houston area. In total, we invested over $4,000 to make this event happen.

Every bag was packed by hand and included:

A handwritten card

Non-slip socks

A stress ball

Lotion

Sugar-free candy

Sanitizing wipes

Stickers

But the real message inside each one was simple: someone is thinking of you. For a senior who rarely gets visitors, a small gift and a reminder that they are not forgotten can brighten a whole week.

What made the day special was seeing so many people come together for the same reason. Many volunteers were meeting for the first time, but by the end, it felt like one big team.

None of this would have been possible without our 5 sponsors, Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, MM Civil, NeuroMovement Center, Vista Assets, and B&J Cabinetry, along with the Katy Elks Lodge, and every volunteer who showed up and gave their afternoon. Thank you!
